European Steel Skills Agenda
EUROFER works with a range of stakeholders, including its steel-producing members, trade unions and policy makers on social topics.
Social dialogue is vital to the sustainability and success of the sector, because it is the employees and workers in the sector that make the steel industry what it is. Some 330,000 people work directly for the steel industry. 2.6 million jobs, in total, depend on the sector.
This is why ensuring there is a sufficient skills base is so important - as is continuing an open and transparent dialogue with employees already working within, or around, the sector.
Brussels, 01/10/2025
With Europe’s steel industry at breaking point, industriAll Europe and the European Steel Association (EUROFER) held an emergency steel social summit to demand urgent action. Ahead of the announced Commission proposal addressing the impact of global steel excess capacity on the EU steel market, due by mid-October, the European social partners are united in calling for robust and effective trade measures. They also insist on fast and urgent implementation of the EU Steel and Metals Action Plan, especially concerning energy prices and demand. Maintaining the level of political ambition as promised in the EU Steel and Metals Action Plan is essential to restore steel’s competitiveness and save its green transition as well as steelworkers’ jobs across Europe.
European Steel in Figures 2025 is EUROFER's statistical handbook, laying out in an easy-to-use format the key statistics and data about the performance and footprint of one of Europe's most important strategic sectors
